Sunday, 11th July 2004 Dick Denton kindly ran a repeat of his successful 'Village Walk' (and talk) around Heath and Reach. Eighteen people braved the threatening skies (which, in the end, didn't rain at all) include some newcomers to the village who had only moved in a few days before. Dick also showed, hot off the presses, the second issue of the Heath and Reach village map, which will be available very soon. |

Thursday, 9th June 2004 The Greensand Trust present 'Secrets of the Sandhouse Pit' - a guided walk around the Sandhouse Nature Reserve from the recently cleared Coating Plant off Woburn Road which we were allowed to use for car parking. |

Phil Irving of the Greensand Trust led the walk to look at the current state of the Reserve and to point out and describe the plant species growing there.
There are two ponds in the reserve, both now home to a variety of plant and animal species including the protected great crested newt.
There are at least three species of orchid in the reserve, including (left) the common spotted orchid and (below right) the pyramidal orchid (the latter flowers later).
Forget-me-not (below left) and dropwort (below right).
The Bedfordshire Natural History Society is holding another walk in the Sandhouse Reserve on the evening of Wednesday 30th June 2004. Its is quite likely that some of the other species of orchid will be in flower by then.
