Footpaths 5 and 6, Sunday 1st June 2003
A moderately-sized group of eight walked footpaths 5 and 6 from the Royal British Legion hut on a balmy Sunday afternoon on a walk led by David Lambert.
One of the first sights encountered is the illegal makeshift mountain bike circuit (left).
(left) The party examines the unusual oak sculpture near 'black' or 'charcoal' pond, created by ?
On the route towards Great Brickhill (right), the path is crossed by a number of other routes, some specifically for horse riders and others for mountain bikers.
The path crosses grazing land, but the animals seemed pretty friendly.
Amoungst the many hydrangias currently in flower was this brillian yellow azalea.
The large stone crests (right) at each end of the bench overlooking Stockgrove Lake are the coat of arms of Michael Kroyer Kielberg and clearly show his family's nautical origins. On the lake can be seen the remains (below) of the once thatched building that burned down soon after WWII. It was not a boathouse but was used for swimming. The now submerged barrier across the lake was to keep the silt out of the lower area.

'Heath Alps', Sunday 4th May 2003
For the first of the year's P3 walks, Dick Denton lead a group of around 20 on a circular route through the village via Footpaths 1 and 10. Unfortunately I didn't take a camera, so no photos. Despite Dick's statement that he wasn't an historian, he seems to know quite a bit about the parish and this knowledge was added to by a number of locals. The guide to this route has now been updated to include a lot more information regarding the buildings, sights and features you will see along the way.
